simply put...

two people got shit canned and fucked in an alley. no protection. shit canned. now there is a baby. not so shit canned now, the obviously incapable parents court the delusion that they can handle parenthood. said baby is born with cancer. yeah, it happens. dad works a shit job. mom lives with her parents. no insurance.

accidental baby needs help. not its fault mom and dad are shits. not its fault it can't afford to pay for treatment. not its fault it will die.

warning: generalization ahead....

the people who decide that social healthcare is a bad idea are also the ones who have decided that abortion is a bad idea. if they can tell you that you MUST have a baby, then they should be partly accountable for the baby. but they wont be. exactly the opposite.

we exist as a species. we survived because we took care of one another in time of need. its a basic and obvious instinct. to refuse a socialist concept is to refuse the instincts that gave us the ability to survive in the face of greater difficulties. simply, a lion will attack one, it will not attack 1000. if we didnt take care of each other, weak and strong... we would have never reached 1000.

greed is eating america alive. you dont need all that you have.

please, tax me more. help me pay to heal those that need it.

@bryanHargrave i think ur whirling around a double edged sword on this.. yes 2 ppl got shit faced and now a poor baby suffers for it, but us, the USA, the ppl, have a responsabilty to help the child not the parents..if raising some ppls taxes does that then so be it..i am not going to let anyone tell me i can or cannot have a baby , and ur dead on with that ,if they think they can ,then help support it..! u have seen it , there are fucked up ppl right n left but they can help themselves, its our job as the " good citizen " to help with the kids these jackasses keep having , the parents should be neutered if they keep having welfare kids..its crazy..! i hope u like or at leasst agree with some of what i said, i do agree with some of urs...if not then oh well ijust wasted 30 sec typing this..

Here's how I see the socialized medicine debate...

There are already two fully socialized programs in place that we all pay taxes for to ensure that citizens are safe. These are the police and fire departments. We don't even consider the possibility of ever getting rid of them, even the most fundamental and crazed of right-wingers don't ever bring it up. And why would we? It is generally agreed upon that even the jobless, the homeless, and the just plain stupid are equally as entitled to fire and police protection as anyone else, right? Consider what it would be like if they weren't socialized...

If you have a great job with a big corporation, you're good to go. You can pick between several different fire and police protection options, the programs are sometimes some of the best in the country. The cops get to the scene fast, and solve the case often and quickly. For a little extra docked from your paycheck, you can even get an out of network option so that you can be protected while you're traveling.

If you work in a smaller company or one that doesn't offer good benefits, you won't be as lucky. You'll probably have one option for a mediocre fire/police station that's 45 minutes from your home. If it is ever an emergency and you call a station closest to your house, you'll get an 'out of network' bill of $100 - $600 in the mail, depending on what you were calling for.

If you are only employed part time, self employed, or work for a very small company, you get no protection at all. You can sign up for an independent protection program for $500 a month, but they'll only come if your life is in danger. If you're just being robbed or something, no help for you. It's not covered.

If you are in extreme poverty, you can sign up for Policare (kind of like medicare). The protection is free, but takes months of paperwork to get, and the service is terrible. Cops and fireman take at least two hours to get to the scene, and they are generally corrupt and inept at their jobs.

Now a scenario! A girl is working a good job and has good protection benefits. Her car is broken into and she calls to report it, the care is swift and they even manage to get some of her things back. Years later, she gets a new job, and with that a new protection program. Except, when she applies to sign up for it, she is denied coverage for 'pre-existing safety hazards' because of her previous break-in. She is completely without coverage and cannot get a single protection company to sign her on.

She is raped and beaten at a house party some months later. She calls the cops, and pays $800 out of pocket because it's on the weekend and 'emergency hours'. If she wants them to do an investigation to find the perpetrator, it'll be upwards of $1000 a week. If she chooses to do this, she will be bankrupt.

Wouldn't that be fucking awful if that was the world we lived in? If your own personal safety weren't financially feasible if you were broke, jobless, or if you had ever needed protection in the past?

Well, replace police with health care, and murder/burglary with cancer. It's not any god damned different.

People can argue all they like about not wanting to be responsible for other peoples laziness, stupidity, or problems that aren't our fault. But as a CIVILIZED society we should be taking care of our own. Health care should be something any human that needs help can have access to. Don't agree? Then get rid of the police and fire departments run by the government.

Except that would just be ridiculous, now wouldn't it?

(apologies for the extremely long rant)
