so, lets say that you go to a convention. while registering in the lobby of the convention center you pass a table of complimentary donuts. as you reach to grab the first donut you see a sign "3 donut limit". how many of you would eat less than three because you dont need that many, how many would take exactly three just so you can get all that you are allowed and how many are a bunch of assholes and would take more?
the actual point of this blog is built around the assholes who would take more. yes, they are assholes. the secondary point revolves around the people who take as much as they can get without breaking the rules.
speed limits. why does everyone in the driving world feel like its ok to break them? why does every single driver have the idea that up to 10mph over the LIMIT is ok? everyone in the world would agree that the person who takes 4 donuts from the table is an asshole. why arent people who speed assholes... oh wait, they are. more than likely, you are. it seems like everyone has to get where they are going as fast as freaking possible and risk getting a ticket and then bitch like it wasnt their fault when they get pulled.
it seems like the no. 1 argument for speeding is "a cop friend of mine says that 5-10mph over the limit isnt a big deal". the flaw with that... your cop friend may not be the one running radar and more than likely will not testify to saying that in a court of law. you may get pulled over for 1mph over the limit by a cop who found out his wife was cheating on him 20 minutes before and then face a judge who's mother was killed in a wreck by a person going 4mph over the limit. you just cant count on an officer overlooking the fact that you are breaking the law.
the point here is that if the limit is 65 then 65 is the absolute fastest you can legally travel. no argument. even 1mph over is breaking the law and you are begging for a ticket. treat the speed limit like the donut limit. just because its 65 doesnt even mean you have to go 65. you can totally go 63 and be fine. i bet at the end of your day, you wont even be able to notice the time you lost with that minimal reduction of speed.
speeding is a sign of impatience, poor planning, and disrespect for authority and the other drivers around you. none of these are respectable traits. slow down and be a better person. its just not worth it, asshole.
