Dad.

very recently my sister sent a picture to me that prompted an idea for a blog. i have been a really busy boy lately and havent set aside any time for it. today i landed back in richmond and have my first real night alone. how funny that it just so happens to be fathers day.

this is my dad. he is busy hugging on my niece and nephew. it is my favorite picture of my dad ever. i learned two things from this picture that i think are pretty important. i will be brief.

1. it is good to supply your parents with grand kids. there is a really good chance that you dont remember exactly the kind of person they were when you were a kid. watching them with little versions of you and your siblings adds a great perspective on the amount of love they gave to you.

2. my father is a great man. he loved me more than i ever noticed. being the kind of teenager i was, any love was a feat. if i ever felt unloved as a kid, it was my fault. my father loved me just like he is loving my niece and nephew in this picture. i have a much better relationship with him now than i ever did as a child. i hope its because i have become the man that he wanted me to be and not just because i am more tolerable.

thanks dad. i love you. i really did intend to write this before fathers day.
